I was shooting the breeze with my fellow Rockin’ Art Moms, and we were all, “What up, ladies, why don’t we get all ho-ho-holiday festive this year and collaborate on a post?” And then we were all like, “Yo, what kind of post?” And then the smart Rockin’ Art Mom said, “Girls, we are so rockin’, let’s show the people how to rock DIY wrapping paper.” And then we all did shots and high-fived each other.

I wanted my contribution to the wrapping paper party to be not messy, because sometimes even I feel like keeping it clean. So I decided to make snowflake wrapping paper. Mostly because I wanted an excuse to print out this awesome guide for cutting snowflakes, and also because I knew I’d get lots of help from my family in the cutting of the snowflakes.

And here is how you fold your paper to prepare it for the cutting. By the way, if you’re looking for Star Wars snowflake templates, because who isn’t, here they are.

How to fold paper to make a snowflakeSo basically we just made lots and lots of snowflakes. Some we made according to the before mentioned link, and then we got all crazy and made up our own designs, ad-libbing the cutting as we went along. I feel like I could sit around all day cutting snowflakes; it’s the coolest to unfold your snowflake and see the results.

paper snowflakesI used the snowflakes in 2 ways to decorate packages, but there are all sorts of great things you could do with them if you play around. This is a fine excuse to drop a lot of money on some fancy handmade papers and make the most gorgeous snowflakes in all the land.

On the big package, I simply double-stick-taped the snowflakes onto the red paper. You could also use those cool glue dots if you have some.

The little package was tied with that twine that’s everywhere (I got mine at Target), and I tied 2 snowflakes to the ends by poking a small hole in the center of each and knotting the twine to hold them on. I imagine this would be a hit if you have a cat, because even I had fun batting these around.

  • super super cute! i have dreams of someday wrapping everything in brown plain paper and using a sharpie to turn them into delicious works of art. but in reality so far i’ve just frantically wrapped the bajillion presents we give in ugly paper and hope it gets DONE. Something to aspire to, someday.
