I’m going to go ahead and just tell you how much I love Golden Milk, and also tell you how to make a paste so that you may have golden milk every morning when you wake up at 5am and journal.
Do you even know what Golden Milk is? It’s basically a turmeric based tea, but the water is swapped out for almond or coconut milk.

1/2 cup turmeric powder
1 1 /2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 cup water
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
5 Tablespoons coconut oil
Heat the water, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and pepper on medium-low heat, stirring constantly, for about 6-7 minutes. Add coconut oil, let it cool, and keep it in a jar in the fridge. Add a teaspoon of paste to a cup of almond milk and heat it up. Add raw honey to taste. If this is too strong for you, play with how much to add to the milk.

I had only used turmeric previously for making terrible curry recipes that I always ruined, but drinking it in a tea has opened my eyes to a whole new way of approaching spices.
Anyway. Back to turmeric tea and the benefits of consuming it. Here are some of the amazing properties I have learned that turmeric possesses:
- Decreased cancer risk
- It’s pretty
The curcumin in turmeric is better absorbed by the body with the addition of pepper and fat, so most recipe for turmeric tea/paste will include pepper or peppercorns and coconut oil.
I’ve tried making golden milk with all fresh roots-n-shit, which was awesomely yummy, but far too much work for an everyday drink. I’ve also tried a recipe for a pre-mixed powder mix to add to almond milk, but I am officially a fan of the paste as it seems to mix in better with the milk.
You just scoop out a little teaspoon to tablespoon sized glob of it, mix it into a cup of almond milk, heat it in the old micro or stovetop, pinch a little cinnamon on top, stir in a bit of raw honey and slug it down. I use a tiny cute awesome whisk, because I love it.
I will go ahead and say that I was ambivalent about trying this, because it seemed so chock full of turmeric, but I love the taste. It’s earthy without tasting like dirt, and stains your teeth a beautiful yellow.
No, just kidding- I haven’t had staining problems; just make sure you wipe it off your lips before you go out in public. And if you go out after making this, be prepared for people to think you have jaundice in your hands.

I don’t want to burn out on turmeric, so I tend to resist my urge to start whisking it into everything I eat or drink, but I have this Miso-Turmeric dressing recipe on my radar.
