I’m not going to pimp a whole bunch of junk on this here blog- only things I really love. I must maintain my extra-refined sense of taste and standards, right? Right. So let’s get down to this. I have a very cool Copy Kids DVD to give away to one (wun) lucky reader of this post.
This DVD is such a simple idea, but it’s fascinating. The whole deal is that you pop it in and click on a veggie or fruit and you are shown different kids eating that food- the idea being that your kid will want to copy those kids, who are clearly loving these healthy foods they are eating. Before we watched it, I was all, yeah, uh huh. EYEROLL. snort. But just as one does when one has a glimmer of hope, I prepared a plate of:
- a carrot
I knew the broccoli and and carrot might be safe bets, since Beckett is fairly fond of broccoli, and he’s willingly tried carrots, but the cucumber was going to be the trick vegetable. I knew if he tried a cucumber, even looked at one, that this would be a miraculous moment. I started with the carrot kids, and they’re very cute, sitting at different tables, just diving into the raw vegetables. It’s actually much more entertaining than I was expecting, due to the fact that young kids just do weird things and can’t stop moving. Beckett was digging watching the kids and would smile once in a while or laugh with them.
He didn’t ask for any vegetables, but when I put the plate in front of him, he reached for the carrot and started chomping. And he kept on eating as he watched the other kids. It was pretty cool, but for some inane reason I felt guilty for tricking him. But then I realized I wasn’t tricking him and he was eating vegetables, so I popped another chocolate in my mouth and switched over to broccoli.
Same outcome. He actually ate some raw broccoli trees. I’ll add that I was sitting next to him while we watched this, and I’d be saying things in my best Dora voice like, Hey, that little boy is eating broccoli! Yum! Do you want to try some?
Here’s the moment you’ve been waiting for. Did he or did he not eat a cucumber, you’re asking yourself breathlessly. And the answer is, he did. He ended up eating 3 slices of peeled cucumber, and then he spied the other half of the intact cucumber and started gnawing on that. WTF? He was a cucumber maniac.
This will be fun to pop in from time to time and revisit the children eating healthily. It’s obviously something you probably don’t want to watch every day, but I can see preparing a new plate of maybe 3 of the foods at a time and watching once a week. If nothing else, you’ll end up snacking on the healthier fruits and vegetables with your kid. Come to think of it, I think I’ll stage a mandatory viewing of this for my husband and the older kids tonight.
