Arts Advocacy Day is Upon us!

Today (and tomorrow) are Arts Advocacy Day(s), and I’m really not sure why there’s no figure like Santa or the Easter Bunny who delivers art materials to all the good kids.

Nevertheless, it’s a day to reflect on the importance of the arts , and there are a few ways you can join in:

Tonight is The 26th Annual Nancy Hanks Lecture on Arts and Public Policy featuring Yo-Yo Ma. Join me virtually to watch the lecture at 6:30 pm Eastern time with a big glass of wine.

Tomorrow is the Google+ hangout, at 10:30 am Eastern time, with Yo-Yo Ma, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drummer (formerly of Guns N’ Roses) Matt Sorum, former New York City Ballet principal dancer and Aspen Institute Arts Program Director Damian Woetzel, and Lisa Phillips, author of “The Artistic Edge: 7 Skills Children Need to Succeed in an Increasingly Right Brain World.”

Americans for the Arts will be collecting questions before the Hangout via Twitter and email. You can either Tweet to them using the #AskYoYo  hashtag. Or, send an email to:[email protected] with  #AskYoYo  in the subject line.

Will you all tweet your little faces off about this? Use #AAD2013 in your tweets.

Written by Joanne Gonzales

Joanne Gonzales has a passion for getting creative. Whether she is making personalized DIY gifts or taking part in larger arts and crafts projects, she puts her all into making new and beautiful things.

She lives with a group of close friends and believes in the natural way of life. Joanne has built an outdoor arts and crafts gallery that overlooks the countryside in her hometown, which is where all of her creations come to life.

Art started off as a hobby, but over time Joanne has mastered her skills and sold some of her favorite pieces. She works full time as a florist and has done for many years. It helps keep her creative juices flowing and she hopes to one day open her own florist shop with a twist.
