Real Actual Factual Dream House

Thinking up that ironical dream house got me thinking. What would I seriously love in a real next house that we own?

I am an obsessively visual person, and always have been. My eyeballs are constantly taking in data and processing it inside my pea head, and that’s why I won’t be focusing on you if we have a conversation in person, because you won’t hold my attention for very long. You see, I won’t be listening to a word you say. I will be drinking you and every little nuance of you into my visual mind file.

When I worked as a full time Stylist I had files jammed full of tears from various home design magazines. Bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, etc. This is why I love Pinterest with my whole heart and soul, and why I am fond of lifestyle bloggers, even though I want to punch the fabulousness out of them sometimes.

Following is a handful of things on my real next home list.

1. Mudroom. Whoever decided that mudrooms were a good thing to add onto a home was a damn genius.

2. Glass shower in master bedroom with slate tile floor. Yes. And white walls and public radio piping in while I take a moderately hot shower and slough my callouses.

3. Fireplace. Nothing is better than a fireplace, except maybe an indoor pool, but I’m not going to go getting all crazy for this list.

4. Lots of light. As someone who is partial to the effects of antidepressants, I also tend to enjoy lots of natural light. This also helps in the trying-to-make-art category.

Hello, windows. Damn, that table is cool, too.

5. Front porch or enclosed sunroom. I need to be able to have a little nook in which to stare outside- Otherwise my brain doesn’t stop going and it explodes. It’s messy.

Look! A rabid squirrel is eying us from that tree! Good thing we’re invincible on our porch. Now go git me an iced tea.

(That’s me talking to Christian.)

Amen to the mudroom. In my next life, maybe, when we don't live in a cramped city house. Right now I'd kill for a rat-free house or maybe a coat closet. I dream BIG.

That's about the same 5 things I want.. though I do have an enclosed porch & fireplace. I consider myself fortunate… not to rub it in or anything.

Oh, mudrooms are glorious. I don't have one….yet. We don't have a side entrance from the outside, and our front door has no coverage so precious mail packages are in danger of wetness, which will not stand when looking for the next house.

Combining all these feature would make a really nice home! You probably need to make another post about the neighborhood you want too. Looks like it was fun to put together! I like the table and the mud-room and the large modern open sunlit spaces (that maybe someone else cleans).

Coat closets are totally luxurious. I cleaned ours out yesterday, and it didn't smell very pretty.

Those are 2 pretty good ones from the list. If you have to choose and all.

You could probably get a side entrance pretty fast if you took a sledgehammer to a wall- then what's one more step? Boom. Mudroom.

Yes, I think cleaning people would be key to this equation. Hmmmmmm I'll have to think about the neighborhood. Maybe a neighborhood full of Keebler elves..

Don't forget an extra nook for me. I can entertain you when needed and you can lock me away the rest of the time. Your style is killer.

Sign me up! I agree with you. I'd love a house like that. Thanks for visiting me on my SITS day!

Again, I want to visit your dream house. Spectacular in every way.

Wow! Love your taste in design and style.

    Your header is super-cool, too!

Glad I bumbled upon your blog.

Well, hello! And thanks. I'm actually obsessing over designing a new header now, but maybe I'll let it rest for a bit…

I love your actual factual dream house. I think that that big ol square table needs a big fat lazy susan to spin your dinner.
I too dream of a mud room.
