Hello my flatulent little friends. Did you miss me? I have been working hard, much like one of Santa’s elves, to make another web site.

I’ve been feeling awkward for a while about having a directionless personal site, and I don’t enjoy writing about the antics of my children, so I dug down deep and thought about what I love a lot and would keep me interested in blogging about. Apparently that subject is not me. It’s kids’ art and design.

I am starting a site that will be a resource and place of inspiration for parents to check out awesomely-designed kids’ products and learn more about providing more art instruction for their kids at home, or at least surrounding their kids with inspiring art materials and books so the kids can learn that way.

I’m pissed that our kids learn next to no art in school, but the world is jam-packed full of products that are designed by people and art that is made by people that needs to be seen and experienced and appreciated by kids. Art can already seem inaccessible and scary to many people, what with it being housed mostly in giant museums and small, exclusive galleries. That sucks. I want kids to be comfortable with art and design and understand it on a little bit deeper level than just, Oh! I’ve seen that Van Gogh painting in my classroom taped onto the wall!, or, This iphone of my mom’s is really fun to play on and feels great in my hand and I wish I had the enormous vocabulary to express why it is superior to other smart phones out there. (Okay, that might be a little lofty, but you get the idea.)

So what does this mean for Craftwhack? It means I will continue to blog on here sometimes, because I won’t be able to survive if I can’t swear and be snarky somewhere. I think I’m going to slow it down to posting maybe twice a week on here- one random rambly post, and one Tutorial Tuesday. And before you get all comfy with this idea, I am renaming Tutorial Tuesday, Lifewhack, as suggested by my friend Brett Kinsler way back when. Why? Because it’s a good name and then I don’t have to worry about a strict Tuesday deadline. Boom. Win.

Would you guys go look at my new site and tell me what you think? You can be honest if you have suggestions or hate something. I like critiques. I like you, too. Even if you are flatulent.

p.s. I’m still filling in a lot of the resources and trying to figure out if I have things organized in the best manner, so there are gaping holes still.

Yay! Glad you're not going away–was going through Craftwhack withdrawal last week. And yessss to art sites for kids. AWESOME.

  3. 04/30/2012 / 8:04 am

Oh, how EXCITING!! I'm always pinterest-stalking you for kid craft ideas… So. Stoked.

  6. 04/30/2012 / 8:36 am

Awesome! ARTCHOO looks great and I'm glad we're not losing you from the personal blog-o-sphere. It was quite a troubling gap of uncertainty without any new posts here for so long :).

  7. 04/30/2012 / 11:15 am

Very exciting news! Great concept… going there now.

  8. 04/30/2012 / 3:52 pm

Thanks, Shalini. I couldn't go away as Craftwhack completely, but it feels good to scale back. Pheee-ew.

  9. 04/30/2012 / 3:55 pm

Thank you- it feels like we were at the conference weeks ago now.

  10. 04/30/2012 / 3:56 pm

Yay! There'll be lots of good stuff on the new site. Unless my brain freezes up suddenly….

  11. 04/30/2012 / 3:57 pm

Okay, tell me. Did you feel like a total ass writing out the word ARTCHOO? I bet you did. Ha!

  12. 04/30/2012 / 4:01 pm

Yay! I'm excited about it- doing awkward little happy dances all around.

  13. 05/01/2012 / 1:21 am

    Good idea.
I would change the background to make it entirely different from Craftwhack. But that is just what I would. 🙂

  14. 05/01/2012 / 2:29 am

Oh, thanks! I think you're right- I will mess around with backgrounds.

  15. 05/01/2012 / 4:11 am

Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh! So excited for you! Can't wait to keep following along. This is something I am passionate about too, and the reason I started an art program for toddlers where I work. I have heard parents over the years complain that art is too messy, so they don;t buy art supplies for their kids, and that just infuriates me! The early experiences can be so crucial! I try to share creative pursuits with Simon in my own blog as well, hoping they might inspire other parents out there to give it a go.

Anyway, i could go on and on about this, but just want to say you rock!!!

  16. 05/01/2012 / 7:06 am

    Hooray for Lifewhack and Artchoo!!

  17. 05/01/2012 / 7:25 am

Yay, you are keeping Tutorial Tuesday. That is my favorite. I am excited to read your new art blog. My oldest is very arty so I can't wait!

  18. 05/01/2012 / 11:31 am

This is such a cool idea. I am eager to see your new site!

  19. 05/01/2012 / 1:06 pm

So exciting! I love your new concept and can't wait! Were you inspired at the blog-o-rama from your recent travels? I missed you and am glad to have an Artchoo in the blog-o-sphere!

You HAVE to keep this going! Your blog is fookin' hysterical, and since I don't have children, I won't have a "need" for your other site. PLEASE keep this snarky, sassy, vibrant sense of humor going for people like me…. I'm sure I'm not alone in this plea! xoxoxO!!!

  21. 05/01/2012 / 5:08 pm

Wa-hoo! I'm so glad you like the idea- and I love your creative stuff you blog about. Maybe more people will be inspired to get all messy…

  22. 05/01/2012 / 5:09 pm

Aw, thanks. TT is what keeps me going over here. It's fun….

  23. 05/01/2012 / 5:09 pm

Thanks. And I hope if I ever meet you, you are wearing that mustache from your avatar.

  24. 05/01/2012 / 5:10 pm

I was! So inspired- that's what gave me the idea. I hope I can juggle everything. Eek.

  25. 05/01/2012 / 5:13 pm

Oh, well damn! How can I say no to that? You just made me a little teary and blushy with all those compliments. So xoxoxoxox right back at you.

  26. 05/02/2012 / 10:13 am

Hmm. I have been clearly hanging with the wrong crowd at conferences. No wonder it was a tad boring. You going to BlogHer? I want to sign up for the sessions you go to. We can tag team them with your antics. It will be fun!

  27. 05/02/2012 / 1:10 pm

Oh yay! Passion and focus. I love Lifewhack and am so selfishly glad you are still posting here. You are one my favorites. Good luck and I am excited for the new site too!

  28. 05/03/2012 / 12:56 pm

You really scared me there for a minute, I thought you were abandoning this site. PLEASE keep swearing and venting and doing whatever you please here on occasion. I'll definitely check out your artsy fartsy site 🙂
